About Flon Klar Guitars

I build from my original, unique designs, or I can build from your design and specifications.

Flon Klar Guitars builds custom electric guitars, specializing in 4-, 5-, and 6-string basses. The important idea here is that YOU get the instrument that YOU have always wanted (or maybe that you never knew you always wanted!) at a price that I hope you will find surprisingly affordable!

I'm designer/builder/bassist John Larkin. I have been creating my style of stringed instruments since 2006, beginning with "Slasher" (a 5-string bass, which has since been decommissioned) and up to my most recent build, "Bow Bass" (an Electric Upright Bass)- 12 basses and 2 six-string guitars, all one-of-a-kind! You can see most of them on the "Instruments" page."

Interested in having a bass or guitar custom-built just for you?

Do you know every spec and detail of your dream instrument? Or do you just want something totally unique? Or something in between?

Whichever it is, I can build it for you.

At FK Guitars, I love to craft quality instruments from exotic and domestic hardwoods (mahogany, bloodwood, purpleheart, and walnut are some of my favorites!), allowing the natural beauty of the wood to enhance the form of the guitar. For this reason, I don’t encourage paint (although I can if you really want it), but I am currently working on a specific “signature” paint finish (more about that down the road…). Typical finishes are natural-looking Tung oil, hand-rubbed polyurethane, or gloss lacquer.

Although I am pretty creative with my designs, (and, to be honest, I really enjoy the design phase of each project), if you have a specific idea of the form your instrument should take, I will absolutely work with you to realize your goal.

I use commercially-available hardware that is well-known for quality and reliability- brands like Gotoh, Hipshot, Sperzel, Schaller, EMG, Bartolini, Dunlop, and Neutrik. If you don’t know exactly what you want, and you would prefer that I choose for you, you can be sure that your new bass or guitar will be assembled with quality parts, materials, and craftsmanship.

The possibilities are endless, and of course, all aspects of the build are finalized only with the client’s approval.

To see examples of past bass and guitar builds, make your selection from the menu on “The Instruments” page.

And when you’re ready to take that leap, find your way to the Contact page and send me a quick email. I’ll get right back to you to discuss the details. Can’t wait to start that next Flon Klar build!
